Matthew
5:13
“Let
me tell you why you are here. You’re
here to be salt seasoning that brings out the God flavors of this earth. If you lose your saltiness, how will people
taste godliness? You’ve lost your
usefulness and will end up in the garbage.”
OUCH!!!
Pretty direct, huh?!?
OUCH!!!
Pretty direct, huh?!?
Sitting
here sick, possibly contagious…hoping when I’m well I can be MORE contagious!
With
all the voices shouting at us throughout the day…whether through the media, at
the office or in our head…it can be challenging, at best, being salt and light
to a thirsty and dark world. We are constantly bombarded with negative messages, being programmed from the moment we wake up in the wee hours of the morning.
(Could
somebody please turn down the noise…I’m trying to hear from God.)
Since we can be contagious for the good or bad, people are more likely to catch our ‘Negativity’... which is highly contagious. It spreads like a virus. We contaminate everyone we come in contact with. The best antidote is God's Word, it has a way of changing your negative perspective. It persuades you to place your trust in the God of the Bible, not in how you 'think' or 'feel' on any fickle day.
Rather
than acting like salt that brings out flavors of this earth, we can be like
pepperoncini’s and stinging people with our bad attitudes that cause their eyes
to water by coming on so strong. (as is seen here in Exhibit A)
Amazing
to think that the Israelites took 40 years to make an 11 day trip, mostly
because of their murmuring and complaining!
Hmmm,
what is my complaining keeping me from?
In
your sphere of influence, how are you influencing? Are you causing people to thirst after God,
or to run from your 'glass half empty doom and gloom' vibes? Make a concerted effort today and catch
yourself before whining about whatever it is we whine about. (Notice I said ‘we’ ;)
Now put your whine down.
Now put your whine down.
